Ingredients

- Fish Cubes 1 cup
- Coriander seeds 1 tablespoon
- Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
- Scraped coconut 1 cup
- Dried red chillies 8-10
- Garlic cloves 8-10
- Ginger finely chopped 1 inch
- Cinnamon 2 inch
- Cloves 5
- Vinegar 1½ tablespoons
- Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
- Salt to taste
- Oil 3 tablespoons
- Onions finely chopped 2 medium
- Green chillies slit 1-2
- Tamarind pulp 1 tablespoon
- Fresh coriander sprigs for garnishing
- Cooked red rice to serve
Method
Step 1
Take fish in a bowl. Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well. Set aside to marinate for 10-15 minutes.
Step 2
Dry-roast coriander seeds and cumin seeds in a non-stick pan till fragrant.
Step 3
Grind together roasted spices, coconut, broken dried red chillies, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, vinegar and some water to a smooth paste.
Step 4
Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add onion and sauté till golden. Add the ground paste and mix. Add green chillies and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
Step 5
Add some water, mix, cover and bring mixture to boil. Add marinated fish pieces and salt and lightly mix. Add tamarind pulp, mix and cook for 5 minutes or till fish is fully cooked.
Step 6
Garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with red rice.
